This volume is the culmination of a unique year-long project designed to identify and critically evaluate the perspectives and practices used by leisure researchers. Chapters 1 en 11 are based on a combination of empirical work by the project investigators. Chapters 2 through 10 are original contributions by recognized authorities in economics, geography, psychology, sociology, social work, and mathematics - all of whom specialize in the application of the perspectives of these disciplines and professions to the study of leisure. Their papers are based on presentations made at a colloquium at the University of Waterloo in November, 1981. The result is this volume that documents and critically examines the diversity and health of research in leisure studies.
