Leisure planning in transitory societies

Collins, M. (2000). Leisure planning in transitory societies. Eastbourne: Leisure Studies Association (LSA).

The joint conference in Wageningen in September 1996 between the LSA and its Dutch counterpart the VVS (Vereniging voor de Vrijetijdssector) was called 'Accelerating Leisure? Leisure Time and Space in a Transitory society'. The conference produced a collection of papers, a number of which are published in this and two further LSA Publications volumes. In this volume there are two groups of papers: seven on leisure planning and management in the UK, and six concerning other places - three from the Netherlands where participation patterns, economic structures in sport, and planning issues show remarkable similarities to the UK - one from Poland and two from Africa. In a tight little island where the use of land is evermore contested, the studie shows a series of rapid changes in space, time, and symbolic values and user and resident attitudes and behaviour.
