Towards one planet sport events

This research report covers an inquiry into sustainability assessment and procurement for outdoor sport events and the function of the built environment to facilitate these specific temporary urban interventions. The research was used and tested on the World Rowing Championship that will be organized in Amsterdam in August 2014. This research was used as a complementary addition to World Rowing's efforts on sustainability policy and guidelines. The goal of this research thesis is to gain more knowledge on sustainability, sustainability for outdoor sport events and the implications of organizing them, their characteristics and how to assess these aspects. This knowledge is used to retrofit the Amsterdam case to a more sustainable and thereby futureproof scenario.
