Sport for all

approaches from utopia to reality

ICSSPE Sport Science Studies 5

Palm, J. (1991). Sport for all: approaches from utopia to reality, ICSSPE Sport Science Studies 5. Schorndorf: Verlag Karl Hofmann.

This book is based on a dissertation delivered at the Hungarian University for Physical Education, Budapest 1990. The book is the first to analyse sport for All as a social phenomenon by interdisciplinary approach and to give a picture of its past, present and future. The author argues the life-saving role that has been played by physical recreation recently and shows the changes sporting activity and sports system have undergone over the last two decades. He does not deny the limited conditions which hinder many people from participation in sport in countries with different social, economic, political and cultural circumstances, but instead of losing courage he attempts to counterbalance them by finding common factors offered by sport for everyone, anywhere.
