International congress 'leisure activities in the industrial society'

Van Clé Foundation (1974). International congress 'leisure activities in the industrial society'. Antwerpen: Van Clé Foundation.

Industrial revolution has given people not only more leisure time, but, as a supplementary advantage, more wealth. The final goal however is to come to more welfare. Nowadays, a new big problem is rising: what are people doing with their free hours and free days resulting from the evershortening working-hours? Means this really a time to be free, or only a pretext for a still increasing consumption? Leisure activities have an enormous influence on social life. Man will be faced with sociologic, economic, physiological, political and cultural implications. Those were the problems, dealt with on the international congress 'Leisure activities in the industrial society'. Foremost representatives from several countries exposed their ideas. These contributions are brought together in this volume.
